our Story
How it started
Cheese and Bees was originally founded by Pete and Bev Davies.
For years Pete has had a lead role working for the National bee unit of DEFRA, (Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs), but thought it would be fun to open a small shop in his spare time to sell some quality cheeses and local produce, including his own delicious local honey.
Taking an empty unit on Humans Farm along side the amazing Samuels Butchers & Farm shop and Brothers in Arms restaurant -
Cheese and Bees was launched.
The business was an instant hit, but in 2023 Pete and Bev decided to step back from the shop to allow it to grow to its potential, and concentrate on the bees.
The evolution
The batten was passed on to another Peter - Peter Pooley.
Peter and his family were proud to be selected to take over the business. With a strong entrepreneurial spirit, love for good food and a head full of ideas to start a new exciting era.
With a love for cheese and a desire to share a passion with others. The goal became to provide the highest quality cheeses from the UK and around Europe, while providing a unique shopping experience for our customers. Unpretentious and friendly.
Cheese Education
At the heart of our mission is a passion for challenging conventional knowledge and pushing the boundaries of what we understand about food.
We believe that the way we approach what we eat is not just about nourishment, but about questioning and rethinking old ideas, exploring new perspectives, and uncovering deeper truths about our food systems.
Cheese is one of the oldest and most loved foods and plays a huge part in science, nature, history and world culture.
We developed taste and talk events and shop tastings where you can learn about cheese-making processes, flavour profiles, and perfect pairings.
Academy of Cheese & Knowledge
To build on our knowledge and increase our resources and connections Peter signed up to the Academy of Cheese.
Academy of Cheese is here for the cheese! They are an impartial, not for profit organisation to promote cheese knowledge, cheese education and careers in cheese. There are four levels of certification, starting at Level One Associate, progressing up to Master of Cheese.
They are quickly becoming known as the leading authority on cheese. As an industry supported organisation, they collaborate with the brightest cheese minds to bring the best cheese knowledge, insights and inspiration.
Our stock list contains over 120 cheeses, and we have access to 100's more available by special order. We also offer an extensive range of fine food, gifts and hampers on our website and in the shop.
Delivery is available UK wide. Click & collect service is also available.
